Get Away

alt

Yesterday, I packed up my car and drove a few hours from our home to get some precious alone time. One of the things that Steve is really good at is knowing when to cash in his hotel points so I can get away for a little bit. We might not always be able to do this type of thing, so why not take advantage of it while we can? This trip will be relatively short but I've been enjoying the quiet and lack of schedule. It's nice to be the parent leaving instead of the one staying home!

I left our house yesterday around noon. I love being alone in the car. I love turning up the radio {usually it's Pandora but sometimes I put my iPod on random and let it go} and grabbing a cup of Starbucks coffee. I love the lack of fighting and whining coming from the back seat. It doesn't matter if it's my 15 minute drive to work or an 8-hour long car ride, I just love that time so very much. As much has I enjoy what I do when I get to my destination, the time by myself in the car bookends such trips in the just the way that I need.

While I'm away I try not to jam pack my time, but I do always make time for a friend who lives in the area. She's the kind of friend who is always going to be there and has been there through most of my biggest moments. We went through a rough time of not speaking a few years ago and over the past 18 months {mostly through these trips}, we've repaired our friendship. Last night we had dinner and then did a little bit of shopping before she drove back to her home.

It's pretty rainy right now, but I actually like it. Once I check out of the hotel, I'm going to hit up a few stores that we don't have in NE Ohio before heading back in time to make it to my monthly Bunco game. Cross your fingers that Steve and the kids are still sane when I finally return home. If the weather there is anything like it is here, he could have some ornery, fighting little girls on his hands!
